EUROWOMAN 2023 Global Leadership Forum in Glasgow: WOMEN BUSINESS DIPLOMACY

EUROWOMAN 2023 WEDO Global Leadership Forum, held within the framework of Global Business Week 2023, took place in Glasgow from 16 to 20 July.

EuroWoman 2023 Global Leadership Forum was held with the participation of representatives from 35 countries. The General Global Partners included Vital Voices with Susan Ann Davis and Norah Casey, World Woman Club with Olga Azarova and Ludmyla Stanislavenko, and WEDO under the leadership of Wendy Diamond.

Women Business Diplomacy as the Central Theme

Olga Azarova’s Talking Points on Ukraine and European History

Regarding the talking points, Olga Azarova spoke about historical and geopolitical facts that, according to her, many delegates from 35 countries had not previously known in detail. Her speech focused on Ukraine’s civilisational history, the war, European security and the strategic importance of Ukraine for Europe.

She emphasised that Ukraine is an ancient European state, with Kyiv as one of the historic centres of Eastern Europe. She also argued that the identity, history and heritage of Kyivan Rus are central to understanding Ukraine’s place in European civilisation.

According to the speech, the current war should not be understood only as a political or military conflict. It is also connected with energy, agriculture, sovereignty, historical identity and Europe’s long-term security architecture.

Energy security — the reliable and affordable availability of energy resources. In the context of European geopolitics, energy security includes protection from dependency on hostile or unstable suppliers.

Ukraine as a Strategic European State

The speech also referred to Ukraine’s agricultural importance, human capital and role as a European country with a deep historical identity. It described Ukraine as a breadbasket of Europe, capable of feeding millions of people with agricultural products, and as a country with hardworking, educated and entrepreneurial people.

The conclusion of the speech was clear: people and nations should stand on the side of dignity, honour and conscience. Protecting Ukraine, in this interpretation, also means protecting Europe from evil, violence and the destruction of international order.
